Pine Needles

Pine needles in the snow by 8 foot falls.   There are a couple of things to notice in this picture.  First, the water has a nice silkyness.  This is achieved by setting a slow shutter speed which blurs the movement of the water.  I took this in manual mode and set the ISO to 100 and an f/16 aperture to both limit the light and to get a good depth of field.  The shutter speed was set to 1/5 of a second which indicated an overexposure of about 1 stop.  Why the overexposure?  The camera sees the world as grey…

Before the Storm

Lake Winnebago has no ice yet and it is hard to see how there will be enough for Spearing season in just over a month.  Things have a way of catching up so you never know.  This photo was taken as the first real Winter storm of the season was bearing down on the Fox Valley. I used my Canon 5d MKIII with the Canon 16-35mm f/4 lens.  Aperture was f/20 to get as much in focus as possible.  The IS system really paid off as my hands were shaking from the bitter wind.
