First Full Moon of Winter

The first full moon of 2017 and Winter.  It was a cold and windy night.  I was thinking I must me either dedicated or crazy (of course, both could be true).  To properly expose both the moon (which is very bright) and the light house I used a 5 step bracket, set for +/- 3 stops.  I then used 2 photos to make the picture - one of the moon and the other for the lighthouse.  Below is another taken at 400mm.

Best Laid Plans

The best laid plans of mice and men Go often askew, And leave us nothing but grief and pain, For promised joy! Robert Burns August full moon and I was ready!  It was a beautiful night in Oshkosh - just perfect!  Temp was around 80, modest humidity and there was music playing at Waterfest.  I arrived on time and set up the perfect shot.  I would capture the full moon rising between the girders of the rail road bridge across the Fox River.  This would be an awesome shot with the diagonal bridge outlined acaings the darkening sky.  I used…

Lantern Festival – Full Moon

We celebrated the Lantern Festival last night with dear friends.  Unfortunately there were too many clouds to seen the full moon so this shot from the last full moon will have to do.  The Lantern Festival occurs on the first full moon after Chinese New Year and is a time for celebration, family and friends Lantern Festival. The moon is especially hard to shoot as it is so bright!  Your camera wants to overexpose so you usually have to set the camera to manual.  This shot was taken at 200mm on a tripod with a 10 second delay to minimize…
