hoop performer high key portrait

We met for a Victorian wet plate portrait session. There was beautiful sunshine all week but on the day of our studio session it was dark and rainy and cold – and Madeline was the last session of the afternoon. But we always endeavor to persevere so with some long exposure time and bit strobes we did make some beautiful glass and tin plates. For the last 10 minutes of our time we decided to do a few quick digital photos – and here they are.

The photo above features Madeline in high key. It was so dark that I purposefully overexposed some photos to fill my camera with light. She almost glows and I love the way her hair and eyes shine!

Our next set was done by the windows and the small amount of light coming through. Just some fun with hoops and poses!

We used the strobe modeling lights for the next photos – along with some post processing fun!

Our last photos were some simple portraits in the waning afternoon light.

More about Madeline – she discovered Hoop dance nine years ago which unlocked the vast world of flow arts, transforming what started as a hobby into a dream career by founding the Cloud Nine Fire Show in May of 2023. Through the grace of silk fans, the glow of LED props, the power of Fire, and the endless possibilities of flow, Madeline aims to inspire others to find healing in motion, tap into the flow state, and to always reach for what makes them feel truly alive.
Cloud Nine’s mission to elevate the vast world of Flow Arts by creating vibrant performances, providing Flow Arts education for surrounding communities, and by cultivating a welcoming space for both emerging and experienced artists.
